Kathmandu, 16 September (H.S.): Nepal Prime Minister Balendra Shah met with US Chargé d’Affaires Megan Boldin on Wednesday.

During the courtesy meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar, Prime Minister Shah expressed gratitude for the solidarity and support extended by the US government to Nepal during the difficult circumstances caused by the disaster.

He said the disaster had affected not only Nepali citizens but also foreign nationals. The Prime Minister described the incident as being linked to the impacts of climate change.

Shah emphasised the need to further strengthen global cooperation and collective efforts to reduce disaster risks arising from climate change and address their consequences. The meeting also discussed Nepal’s unique tourism potential and opportunities for mutually beneficial outcomes for both countries through the development of the tourism sector. Prime Minister Shah said Nepal would always welcome US investment.

Acting Ambassador Megan Boldin expressed sorrow over the loss of lives and property caused by the floods in Rasuwa and conveyed her condolences to the bereaved families and affected communities.

She said that the US government stands in solidarity with the Government of Nepal and the Nepali people during this difficult time. She also conveyed the US government’s readiness to provide necessary support and coordination for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.
