Kyiv, 15 September (H.S.):

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Monday that Ukraine was ready to reduce attacks if Russia also stopped strikes on important infrastructure.

Zelenskyy's comments came after US President Donald Trump said Russia and Ukraine had agreed to stop attacking energy facilities.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine could support a mutual halt to attacks on critical infrastructure. However, he stressed that Russia must also follow the agreement.

He said stopping attacks on power and other important facilities could be the first step towards reducing tensions between the two countries.

Russia has not publicly given a detailed confirmation of the reported agreement.

The issue has become more important as attacks on energy and other infrastructure continue on both sides. Ukraine has targeted Russian oil facilities, while Russia has carried out repeated attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure.

Trump has criticised Ukraine's strikes on Russian oil facilities. He has also linked the war to rising fuel costs in the United States.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine was still waiting for Russia to show a genuine willingness to end the war. He added that Kyiv would consider further steps if Moscow showed a lasting commitment to peace.

Meanwhile, fighting continues in several parts of Ukraine. Russian attacks on Ukraine's railway network have also increased, according to Ukrainian officials.

A strike near the Polish border on Sunday, September 13, raised fresh security concerns in Poland. Warsaw has warned that Russia's military activity near its border requires increased vigilance.

The European Union is also continuing discussions on sanctions against Russia. The bloc is expected to maintain economic pressure on Moscow while supporting Ukraine.

For now, there is no full ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. Zelenskyy's statement shows that Kyiv is willing to consider a limited reduction in fighting, but only if Russia takes similar steps.
