MOSCOW, September 15 (HS/RIA Novosti) - Evangelos Mytilineos, the chairman of the Greek company Metlen Energy & Metals, has urged the European Union to abandon its ban on Russian gas imports to avoid harming its own economy, The Times reported.
Under the EU's plan, a total ban on Russian LNG is set to take effect on January 1, 2027, while imports of Russian pipeline gas are to cease completely by the fall of that same year.
Mytilineos told the newspaper that he did not support the upcoming bans, as they would further worsen the economic situation, and noted that Europe should continue buying Russian gas.
He emphasized that the European market has been under pressure from low gas storage levels, reduced supplies from Russia, and the war in the Middle East.
