Dhaka, 13 September (H.S.): The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) rescued 10 people who were at risk of drowning after a boat capsized in the Padma River in Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila of Bangladesh. All 10 are safe and currently in Indian territory. The BSF has officially informed Bangladesh of the incident, and the Bangladeshi authorities have begun the process of bringing their citizens back.

According to a report by the Dhaka Tribune, BSF personnel rescued 10 Bangladeshi nationals after a boat carrying 12 passengers capsized in the Padma River on Saturday afternoon. One passenger managed to swim back to Bangladeshi territory, while another remains missing.

Police and local residents said the boat, carrying 12 passengers, departed from Bakherali Ghat for Johurpurtek at around 5 p.m. About 20 minutes after the journey began, the boat capsized due to strong winds and rough waves in the river. BSF personnel from the Khandua BSF camp, who were on patrol, rescued 10 passengers from the river and brought them into Indian territory. A 25-year-old passenger identified as Wasim managed to swim to the Bangladeshi bank, while a man identified as Mustafa remains missing. Upon receiving the information, police and Fire Service personnel reached the scene.

Meanwhile, the BSF officially informed the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) about the rescue of the 10 Bangladeshi nationals. Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mustafizur Rahman, Commanding Officer of the 53 BGB Battalion, said, “The process of bringing the 10 rescued Bangladeshis back to Bangladesh is underway. Efforts are also continuing to locate the missing passenger, Mustafa.”
