Kathmandu, 10 September (H.S.): Nepal Police have arrested an Indian national at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu for allegedly attempting to carry a large quantity of foreign currency without proper authorisation.

According to a press release issued by the Airport Security Office, Gauchar, Indian national Jagdish Mohan Rao was apprehended during a baggage inspection at the airport’s X-ray screening area at around 11:24 pm on September 9. Rao was preparing to board Nepal Airlines flight RA225 from Kathmandu to Bengaluru, India.

According to police, a search of his baggage led to the recovery of Indian currency amounting to Rs 6.35 lakh, along with 635 Chinese yuan, US dollars worth an unspecified amount, 1.368 million Vietnamese dong and 1,700 Thai baht.

Police said the foreign currency was allegedly being concealed and carried in violation of applicable regulations.

Following his arrest, the Indian national, along with the recovered currency, was handed over to the Department of Money Laundering Investigation for further investigation and necessary legal action.

Nepal Police said further proceedings in the case are being undertaken in accordance with the prevailing laws.
