Kathmandu, 30 August (H.S.): The Prithvi Highway has been blocked after a landslide occurred at Krishnabhir in Dhading district following a rise in the water level of the Trishuli River on Sunday.

According to the Kathmandu Traffic Office, erosion caused by the swollen Trishuli River triggered the landslide in the Krishnabhir area, disrupting vehicular movement in both directions. The road had begun to sink amid another spell of heavy flooding in the Trishuli River. As the powerful current repeatedly hit the roadside retaining structure, the erosion intensified, eventually causing a section of the highway to collapse.

Traffic Office spokesperson Nareshraj Subedi said vehicles travelling along the route were being stopped in Kathmandu because the Prithvi Highway had been rendered impassable.

Dhading District Police Office Deputy Superintendent of Police Prakash Dahal said the subsidence was still continuing. He added that walking along the affected stretch had also become dangerous after the road gave way.

“The road has collapsed up to its middle. We have also prohibited people from walking through the affected section,” Dahal said.
