Kathmandu, 29 August (H.S.): As many as 158 bodies have been recovered in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East) district as of Friday evening from among those reported missing following the flooding of the Bhotekoshi River in Nepal’s Rasuwa district. Forty-eight additional bodies were recovered on Friday alone.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Anil Pandit, information officer at the District Police Office, Nawalparasi East, 158 bodies had been recovered from various locations along the Narayani River, which flows through the district, by late Friday evening. Of the recovered bodies, 109 were found intact, while the remaining 49 consisted of separate body parts recovered from different locations across the district.

According to the DSP, the recovered bodies include those of 31 women, 51 men, eight boys and 11 girls. The remaining human remains comprise 30 legs, 11 arms, three thighs, and parts including one section above the waist, one portion of a head, one part of an abdomen, the left side of a body and a section of a chest.

The highest number of bodies, 103, were recovered from Gaindakot Municipality. This was followed by 22 bodies from Madhyabindu Municipality, 12 each from Kawasoti Municipality and Binayi Tribeni Rural Municipality, and nine from Devchuli Municipality.

The bodies recovered along the banks of the Narayani River have been secured at various hospitals and forest office buildings for identification and further management. A total of 48 bodies have been kept at Gaindakot Municipal Hospital, 46 at Madhyabindu Provincial Hospital in Danda, six at Madhyabindu Municipal Hospital and five at the building of Ankur Community Forest.

Similarly, 41 bodies have been sent to Gandaki Hospital in Pokhara, two to Lumbini Medical College in Prabhas, Palpa, four to Provincial Hospital, Palpa, and two to Mission Hospital, Palpa, for identification and management.

DSP Anil Pandit said nine bodies are still lying along the riverbank, and preparations are underway to recover and move them to a secure location.
