Kathmandu, 29 August (H.S.): India has sent a specialised technical team to Nepal to assist in relief and rescue operations aimed at evacuating workers trapped inside tunnels of hydropower projects in Rasuwa district following flooding in the Bhotekoshi River. The team has arrived in Nepal along with essential technical equipment and relief supplies.

After the Indian team and technical equipment reached Kathmandu, the Indian Embassy handed them over to the Nepalese government. The specialised team and necessary equipment were dispatched at the request of the Nepalese government.

Following the flooding of the Bhotekoshi River, rescue and relief teams have been facing significant difficulties in reaching workers trapped inside tunnels at hydropower projects located in various parts of Rasuwa and evacuating them safely. In view of the challenging situation, Nepal had sought technical assistance from India.

The team dispatched by India has reached Nepal with the technical expertise and equipment required to support rescue operations inside the tunnels. India has also sent around 10 tonnes of relief material to Nepal, which will be used for relief operations in the affected areas.

Earlier, India had sent aircraft carrying relief supplies to Nepal on two occasions. With the latest consignment, a total of 57.5 tonnes of relief material has so far been delivered to Nepal by India.

India’s continued provision of relief supplies and technical assistance is aimed at accelerating relief and rescue operations in flood-affected areas and ensuring that assistance reaches people stranded amid the crisis.
