Dukki, 29 August (H.S.): Three miners died after toxic gas accumulated inside a coal mine in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, according to local reports. The incident occurred in Dukki district and was reportedly caused by a gas leak and the subsequent accumulation of poisonous gas inside the mine.

According to The Balochistan Post, an online news network based in Balochistan, the deceased have been identified as Khan, son of Pai Muhammad of the Barakzai tribe; Sirajuddin, son of Fateh Muhammad of the Achakzai tribe; and Abdullah of the Alizai tribe, a resident of Afghanistan.

Following the incident, Pakistan United Workers Federation (PUWF) President Sher Muhammad Kakar in Dukki raised concerns over safety arrangements in the mining sector. He alleged that recurring accidents in coal mines were a result of inadequate safety measures and weak monitoring.

Kakar urged the authorities to strictly enforce safety standards at mines and ensure that workers are provided with adequate protective equipment. He also called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Accidents have continued to be reported in Balochistan’s coal-mining areas. The accumulation of toxic gases and other safety hazards have claimed the lives of numerous miners in the region.

The latest incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of mine workers and the effective implementation and enforcement of safety standards across the mining sector.
