Kathmandu, 26 August (H.S.): The flood threat along Nepal’s Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers remains in place as a lake formed by a blockage in the river channel on the Chinese side following an avalanche has not yet fully drained.

In a flood advisory issued at 1:35 p.m. on Wednesday, the Flood Forecasting Division and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority urged people to stay away from the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers and move to safe locations until further notice. The advisory said the risk in downstream areas continues due to the possibility of changes in the water flow caused by the obstruction in the river channel.

Residents of settlements located near the rivers have consequently been advised to remain on high alert and exercise extreme caution.

Meanwhile, flooding triggered by the avalanche on the Chinese side has caused extensive damage in Nepal’s Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts. In view of the possibility of a sudden surge in the river’s water flow, residents in the affected areas have been urged to remain vigilant and strictly follow official advisories issued by the authorities.
