Kathmandu, 25 August (H.S.):
The Jai Nepal Party has launched a campaign calling for a ban on cow slaughter in Nepal and a complete prohibition on the sale and distribution of beef at hotels and restaurants.
The party recalled that the cow is Nepal’s national animal and said that respecting and protecting it is the responsibility of everyone. Party president Dhawal Shumsher Rana said the campaign was launched with the main slogan “Say No to Cow Slaughter”, through which hotel and restaurant operators are being specifically urged not to sell beef.
Rana said protecting the national animal is essential in accordance with Nepal’s religious, cultural and legal traditions. The Jai Nepal Party has also drawn the attention of the government and concerned authorities to the need for stringent measures to ensure the protection of cattle.
