ANKARA, August 24 (HS/RIA Novosti) - Turkey expects Russian and Ukrainian negotiators to resume talks on how to resolve the conflict in Ukraine by the end of the year, although there is no specific timeline yet, a source in the Turkish government told RIA Novosti.

Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky said last week that time will tell whether these contacts will resume. President Vladimir Putin said days later that Russia is ready for a dialogue with Ukraine as long as it acknowledges facts on the ground.

Ankara maintains expectations for the resumption of contacts and is ready to support diplomatic efforts on this issue. We expect the negotiating process on Ukraine to resume by the end of the year, the source said.

Turkey has not received any requests to resume talks on Ukraine in Istanbul so far, the source admitted.

Currently, there are no requests or actions aimed at resuming negotiations on Ukraine in Istanbul, they said.

In the absence of such requests, no specific preparations are currently underway for a new round of talks in Istanbul, the source said. Ankara remains interested in continuing the negotiation process and has repeatedly stated its willingness to offer Istanbul as a venue for contacts, they added.

Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul resumed in May 2025 following Putin's proposal for new contacts. Turkey hosted three rounds of talks. Contacts continued in Abu Dhabi and Geneva with the participation of US representatives.
