Two Miners Die After Toxic Gas Exposure at Duki Coal Mine in Pakistan’s Balochistan

Islamabad, 23 August (H.S.): Two miners died and four others lost consciousness after being exposed to toxic gas at a coal mine in Duki district of Pakistan’s Balochistan province on Saturday, rescue officials confirmed.

According to rescue teams, the bodies of the deceased miners and the unconscious workers were recovered from the mine and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Rescue officials said the coal mine had remained closed for a prolonged period, allowing toxic gas to accumulate inside. The miners were exposed to the gas shortly after entering the mine, resulting in the two deaths and leaving four others unconscious.

The incident comes less than a month after a major mining disaster on July 30, when a coal mine collapsed following a gas explosion on the outskirts of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan.

The July 30 incident occurred at a coal mine in the Sorange area of Quetta. A total of 42 workers were reportedly present at the site when the explosion occurred, and 34 miners were killed in the ensuing collapse. There has been no information about the whereabouts of the remaining miners so far.

Coal mining accidents remain a recurring concern in Balochistan, where inadequate safety measures and hazardous working conditions have frequently placed miners at risk.
