BEIRUT, August 21 (HS/RIA Novosti) - Lebanese movement Hezbollah supports the resumption of negotiations between Iran and the United States with Pakistani mediation and remains committed to Islamabad's negotiation track, a member of the Lebanese parliament from the Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc, the political wing of Hezbollah, Ali Mokdad, told RIA Novosti.
The focus remains on Islamabad's negotiation track, the negotiations that took place between Tehran and Washington in the Pakistani capital, since it was through this process that the war in Lebanon was stopped, not as a result of a direct framework agreement between Israel and the Lebanese authorities, Mokdad said.
The current deescalation does not mean the end of the peace process, one of the main points of which in the Iranian-US negotiations was the restoration of peace in Lebanon, Mokdad added.
The Islamic Republic of Iran's threat to retaliate in the event of continued shelling, as well as attacks on Beirut and the capital's southern suburbs, reaffirmed the first point of the agreement, which calls for the establishment of a comprehensive and sustainable peace in Lebanon, he said.
Mokdad said that such actions are part of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's political plans aimed at strengthening his position in the upcoming elections, speaking about the Israeli army's ongoing attempts to establish control over the strategic Ali Al Taher hill in southern Lebanon.
He also said that the Lebanese authorities are responsible for the continued Israeli attacks, demolition and destruction of villages and towns in the south of the country.
It [Israel] has received a kind of legitimate justification to cover up its occupation, crimes and attacks, the lawmaker said.
The framework agreement signed between Lebanon and Israel in Washington on June 26 stipulates that the Lebanese army will regain control of the south of the country, subject to Hezbollah's disarmament, beginning with pilot zones from which Israeli forces must withdraw. Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has repeatedly stated that negotiations are the only way to end the war and create conditions for the return of southern residents to their homes.
