London, 19 August (H.S.):

Charles Spencer, the younger brother of the late Princess Diana, has announced a new book about his sister, saying he wants to share his personal memories and perspective on her life as the 30th anniversary of her death approaches.

Titled Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, the book will be published in Britain and several other countries on September 22 and is set to be translated into 12 languages.

Spencer, 62, said on Tuesday that repeated requests for interviews about Diana had encouraged him to put his own thoughts and memories on record. He said many accounts about his sister had been shaped by claims that were inaccurate but had gradually come to be accepted as fact.

Spencer said the book aims to present Diana's story from the perspective of her brother and portray her in a positive and personal manner. The book will cover his life with Diana as well as the tragic final week of her life.

Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris in August 1997. At her funeral at Westminster Abbey in London, Spencer delivered an emotional eulogy and pledged to remain a source of support for her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

Almost three decades after her death, Diana remains an enduring and influential figure in the British royal family's history. Her life, public work and personal experiences continue to attract considerable global interest.

Spencer has maintained a close relationship with both Prince William and Prince Harry. In July, Harry, his wife Meghan Markle and their two children reportedly visited Althorp, the Spencer family's ancestral estate in central England, where Diana is buried.

Spencer said he hopes the book will appeal both to people who continue to cherish Diana's memory and to younger generations who were too young to remember her during her years in the public spotlight.

He described Diana as a distinctive and dynamic personality who was full of love and charisma, while also experiencing self-doubt, and said she left a lasting impact on the world.

The book is expected to offer a personal account of Diana's life and legacy from the perspective of someone who knew her closely throughout her life.
