Mumbai, 16 August (H.S.): Eleven people fell ill after consuming birthday cake during a celebration in Nalasopara in Maharashtra’s Palghar district on Saturday night. All those affected were subsequently admitted to Vijaylakshmi Hospital in Nalasopara for treatment.

The Nalasopara police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the illness.

According to a police official investigating the case, a girl’s birthday was being celebrated at Neelkantheshwar Building in Nalasopara on Saturday evening. A cake for the celebration had reportedly been purchased from Chamunda Dairy’s cake shop located opposite the building.

After the cake was served, several people who consumed it began feeling unwell. Eleven people were subsequently taken to the hospital for medical treatment later that night.

Those admitted to the hospital have been identified as Urmila Verma, 32; Saloni Gupta, 16; Sudiksha Shah, 19; Afia Idris, 24; Ruby Shah, 40; Shiv Gupta, 10; Priyansh Verma, 2; Pari Yadav, 7; Priya Verma, 8; Rudra Shah, 13; and Prachi Yadav, 7.

Doctors have described the condition of all 11 patients as stable. The incident has caused concern among their families, although the precise reason for their illness has not yet been established.

No official medical report confirming the cause of the illness has been released so far. Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are examining the circumstances surrounding the consumption of the cake.
