
Birbhum, 16 August (H.S.): Sehgal Hussain, former bodyguard of Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal, was produced before a court in Suri on Sunday in connection with the Tulu Mondal case. The court remanded Hussain to seven days of police custody.
According to police sources, Hussain came under the scanner during the investigation into alleged financial transactions and links between him and Tulu Mondal. Following the findings, Birbhum district police conducted a search operation at Hussain’s residence near the Bolpur bypass.
The search continued for nearly two days from Friday night. Investigators reportedly recovered a large amount of cash, gold jewellery, land documents and foreign currency from the premises.
Government lawyer Bibhas Chattopadhyay told the court that around 150 land deeds, more than Rs 12 lakh in Indian currency and approximately 700-800 grams of gold jewellery were recovered during the search.
The police also reportedly found currency notes from Arab countries and Pakistan. However, the exact quantity of the foreign currency has not been disclosed at this stage.
The government lawyer told the court that the investigation had revealed alleged financial links between Tulu Mondal and Sehgal Hussain. Investigators are now examining the source of the seized cash, jewellery, land documents and foreign currency.
With Hussain being remanded to seven days of police custody, investigators are expected to question him about his alleged financial dealings with Tulu Mondal, the source of the recovered assets and documents, and the possible involvement of other individuals in the case.
The police are also examining the seized land records and financial documents as part of the ongoing investigation.
