Kannur, 16 August (H.S.): A special investigation team has been constituted to trace Plus Two student Shivasurya, who has remained missing for eight days after leaving his home at Chokli in Kannur district. The investigation is being supervised by the Kannur City Police Commissioner, with the search now extended beyond Kerala. Officers are also coordinating with counterparts outside the State as part of the expanded operation.
Police said the teenager left home after his father took away his mobile phone. Shivasurya had reportedly become accustomed to playing online games and had lost money through gaming. Family members believe the confiscation of the phone upset him and may have prompted his sudden departure from home.
The case took a concerning turn after a note believed to have been written by the student was recovered from the house. According to the note, Shivasurya said he was travelling to Kashi and intended to remain there, devoting the rest of his life to spiritual pursuits.
Investigators are examining the available information while attempting to determine whether the note accurately indicates his destination. Police teams have widened their efforts to other States and are pursuing possible leads, but no definite information about the student's present location has emerged so far.
The prolonged uncertainty has caused severe anxiety among his family and local residents. Questions have also been raised about the initial police response, with allegations that the search did not progress quickly enough during the crucial period immediately following the student's disappearance.
The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has called for urgent action to locate Shivasurya. The newly formed special team is expected to coordinate the investigation, examine all available leads and intensify the interstate search. Authorities have assured that every possible effort will be made to find the student and return him safely to his family.
