
Nadia, 16 August (H.S.): A Congress leader and his son were allegedly shot dead by unidentified assailants in West Bengal’s Nadia district on Saturday night. The deceased have been identified as Congress leader Anisur Rahman and his 24-year-old son Abu Sufian.
The incident took place at around 9:30 pm near Bethuadahari railway gate under Nakashipara Police Station.
According to police sources, Rahman and his son were returning home in their car when a group of assailants allegedly intercepted the vehicle. The attackers reportedly fired several rounds at the car before stopping the vehicle and assaulting the father and son with sharp-edged weapons.
Both sustained serious injuries and reportedly died at the spot due to excessive blood loss.
On receiving information about the incident, a team from Nakashipara Police Station reached the spot and recovered the bodies. Police have initiated an investigation into the double murder.
Investigators are trying to identify the assailants and ascertain the motive behind the attack. CCTV footage from the surrounding areas is also being examined to trace the movements of the attackers.
The killing of a Congress leader and his son in such a manner has triggered tension and fear in the area. The police have intensified the investigation and are conducting searches to identify and apprehend those involved in the attack.
