Guwahati, 16 August (HS): In a significant development in the death of Sub-Inspector Navjit Das, police have reportedly found preliminary evidence suggesting that the incident may not have been a road accident but a planned killing allegedly linked to drug trafficking.

According to the preliminary investigation, the vehicle that allegedly struck Das during a night-time naka checking has been seized and its owner arrested. Police suspect that Selimuddin Islam, who allegedly operates a major drug trafficking network in Juria, may have masterminded the attack.

Selimuddin's brother Mahidul Islam, father Abdul Quddus Farazi and two associates, Maffazul and Ruksana Khatun, have also been arrested in connection with the case.

Police and local residents suspect that Das was deliberately hit by the vehicle because he had been preventing drug trafficking activities in the area. Further investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances and motive behind his death.

Das was serving as the Officer-in-Charge of Laishong Police Station in Dima Hasao district.-----------
