Guwahati, 16 August (HS): AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, calling him a “foolish” person with a “narrow mindset” and alleging that he is “communal.”

Ajmal claimed that Gogoi was afraid of him contesting the election from Jorhat. “I am a tiger. I will not leave my kingdom and contest from Upper Assam,” Ajmal said.

He also criticised the Congress leadership, saying that the party’s condition would have been better had Rakibul Hussain become its president.

On the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat, Ajmal claimed that AIUDF would win with “100%” certainty. He said his party would not support Congress in the Nagaon Lok Sabha election, alleging that Congress had “betrayed” AIUDF in the past.

Ajmal also responded to criticism over women touching his feet during his recent visit to Upper Assam. He said touching elders’ feet was part of their civilisation and culture, but added that he had subsequently asked people not to touch his feet. “I did not even get down from my car so that nobody could touch my feet,” he said.-----------
