
New Delhi, 14 August (H.S.):
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognisance of the increasing number of suicide cases among personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The commission has issued notices to the Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Director General of the CRPF, seeking detailed reports within two weeks.
According to official data, 19 CRPF personnel died by suicide in less than five months between January and May 22, 2026.
Reports stated that the CRPF recorded 59 suicide cases among its personnel in 2025, the highest number in the past five years. A total of 281 CRPF personnel have died by suicide over the last five years, of whom around 216 were serving on duty.
