Kyiv, 11 August (H.S.):

At least five people were killed and 20 others injured after a Russian attack on the southeastern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia, regional authorities said on Tuesday. The overnight strikes also damaged industrial facilities, infrastructure, residential buildings and a garage complex.

Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, confirmed the casualties following the attack and said the number of victims could rise. Emergency services were deployed to the affected areas as authorities assessed the damage and assisted those injured.

The attack came amid a broader wave of Russian strikes across Ukraine. Explosions were also reported in Kyiv, where local authorities said the capital had come under a ballistic missile attack. Emergency teams were sent to the Shevchenkivskyi district, and at least one person was reported injured.

Air-raid sirens sounded in Kyiv shortly before the explosions. The latest attacks have highlighted the continuing threat posed by Russia’s use of long-range missiles against Ukrainian cities.

In Zaporizhzhia, Fedorov said Russian forces targeted industrial facilities and infrastructure. Residential buildings and a garage cooperative were also damaged in the attack.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that Russia is seeking to strengthen its military capabilities, including through additional support from North Korea. Ukrainian authorities have also raised concerns over the reported supply of ballistic missiles to Russia.
