New Delhi, 11 August (H.S.): Proceedings in the Lok Sabha were adjourned till 2 PM on Tuesday amid protests by Opposition members over the alleged use of force against students during demonstrations in Delhi. The disruption came as the government offered to hold a discussion on the issue, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah prepared to respond.

The standoff between the government and the Opposition has repeatedly disrupted the Monsoon Session, with Opposition members demanding clarification over the police action against students during the July 20 protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accused Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of avoiding the House despite the government's readiness for a discussion. Rijiju said Gandhi had repeatedly sought a response from Amit Shah and should now remain present to hear the Home Minister's detailed reply.

The government has maintained that it is ready to discuss the student protests and has indicated that Shah will address the concerns raised by Opposition members. The Opposition, however, has continued to demand specific answers on who authorised the alleged use of force against the protesters.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore also moved an adjournment motion seeking an urgent discussion on the alleged police action during the July 20 demonstration. His notice referred to allegations that lathi charges, tear gas, pellet guns and water cannons were used against protesters, including women.

Opposition floor leaders also met in Parliament to discuss their strategy for the day's proceedings amid the continuing deadlock.

Meanwhile, members of the ruling National Democratic Alliance held their weekly 'Mangal Milan' parliamentary meeting at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium in the Parliament Library Building. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president Nitin Nabin and other senior NDA leaders attended the meeting. NDA MPs were also seen waving the national flag alongside the Prime Minister.

The ruling alliance subsequently planned to march towards Parliament, carrying placards accusing the Opposition of avoiding a debate despite the government's willingness to allow the Home Minister to respond.

Four Bills were also listed on the Lok Sabha's legislative agenda, including the proposed legislation to change Kerala's official name to 'Keralam'. Other measures included the National Cooperative Development Corporation Bill, the Tribunals Reforms Bill and amendments to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) law.
