New Delhi, 01 August (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and several other leaders on Saturday extended their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the medal winners of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026.

President Murmu, in a post on X, said that the outstanding performances of Neeraj Chopra, who won the silver medal in the men’s javelin throw event, and bronze medallist Yash Veer Singh, along with Tejaswin Shankar’s bronze medal-winning performance in the decathlon and Yamini Maurya’s silver medal victory in the women’s 57kg judo category, have brought immense pride and joy to the nation.

She said Yamini Maurya’s achievement has secured India’s third medal in judo, reflecting the country’s growing success in the sport. The President added that the athletes’ courage, determination and fighting spirit have enhanced India’s prestige on the global stage.

Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan congratulated Neeraj Chopra for winning the silver medal and Yash Veer Singh for securing the bronze medal in the men’s javelin throw event. He also praised Tejaswin Shankar for creating history by becoming the first Indian to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the decathlon event, and Yamini Maurya for bringing home India’s third medal in judo with her silver medal-winning performance in the women’s 57kg category.

The Vice President said the achievements of the athletes reflect their talent, dedication and unwavering determination. He added that the nation celebrates their success and wished them many more accomplishments in the years ahead.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Indian athletes are continuously creating history and bringing glory to the nation. Congratulating Tejaswin Shankar for winning the bronze medal in the men’s decathlon event at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, the Prime Minister said he delivered an outstanding all-round performance across all 10 events and wished him continued success.

The Prime Minister also praised Yamini Maurya for her silver medal-winning performance in the women’s 57kg judo category, saying her passion for the sport was clearly visible in her performance. He added that her achievement would inspire many young athletes to take up judo in the future.

Congratulating Neeraj Chopra, Prime Minister Modi said that the Indian athlete won a remarkable silver medal in the men’s javelin throw event in Glasgow and once again demonstrated exceptional consistency, composure and determination. He said Neeraj’s success has made every Indian proud.

The Prime Minister also lauded Yash Veer Singh for winning the bronze medal in the men’s javelin throw event, saying his impressive throw reflected his enthusiasm and dedication. He added that the achievement would inspire several young athletes.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said Yamini Maurya’s silver medal in judo and Yash Veer Singh’s bronze medal in the men’s javelin throw event showcased their unwavering dedication, discipline and competitive spirit.

Birla also congratulated Tejaswin Shankar for winning the bronze medal in the men’s decathlon event, calling it a significant achievement as it marked India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games medal in decathlon. He wished the athletes continued success and many more achievements in the coming years.
