New Delhi, 06 July (H.S.):
The domestic stock market traded in positive territory during early trading on Monday despite witnessing intermittent volatility. Both benchmark indices opened on a firm note, with sustained buying interest pushing the Sensex and Nifty higher. Although bouts of profit booking led to brief selling pressure, the overall market sentiment remained positive. By 10 a.m., the Sensex was up 0.48 per cent, while the Nifty had gained 0.45 per cent.
Among the market heavyweights, Bharat Electronics, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Bajaj Auto and Max Healthcare emerged as the top gainers, advancing between 0.96 per cent and 2.20 per cent. On the other hand, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Power Grid Corporation, TCS, Bajaj Finserv and ITC were among the major laggards, declining between 0.57 per cent and 2.81 per cent.
Active trading was witnessed in 2,594 stocks during the session. Of these, 1,394 stocks traded in the green with gains, while 1,200 stocks were in the red. Among the 30 Sensex constituents, 16 stocks were trading higher on the back of buying support, while 14 traded lower. Similarly, on the Nifty, 31 of the 50 constituent stocks were in positive territory, while 19 were trading with losses.
The BSE Sensex opened 176.99 points higher at 77,940.90. Soon after the opening bell, the index slipped briefly to 77,879.70 due to early selling pressure. However, strong buying interest quickly lifted the benchmark higher. Despite occasional bouts of profit booking, the upward momentum remained intact. By 10 a.m., the Sensex was trading 372.18 points higher at 78,136.09.
The NSE Nifty opened 36 points higher at 24,306.85. Initial selling dragged the index to an intraday low of 24,287.10 shortly after the opening. It later rebounded sharply as buyers returned to the market. By 10 a.m., the Nifty had climbed 108.65 points to trade at 24,379.50.
