Guwahati, 06 July (HS): A heated exchange took place in the Assam Legislative Assembly on Monday after Independent MLA Akhil Gogoi objected to the conduct of proceedings in the House. Speaker Biswajit Daimary reminded Gogoi of an all-party decision regarding decorum inside the Assembly.
The Speaker read out the all-party resolution, which states that no MLA shall interrupt when the Chief Minister, the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker or the Leader of the Opposition is addressing the House. The reminder came after Gogoi allegedly continued to raise objections during the proceedings.
Akhil Gogoi, however, expressed his disagreement with the decision and questioned its applicability. He further argued that the restriction should not be limited to the Chief Minister, Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Leader of the Opposition, insisting that ministers should also be included under the same rule.
The exchange briefly disrupted the proceedings as the Speaker reiterated the need for all members to adhere to the agreed norms to ensure orderly conduct of the Assembly.----------
