
Mumbai, 06 July
(HS): Six people, including five children and a woman, were killed as a portion
of a three-storey building collapse in Janta Nagar of Mankhurd area in Mumbai
on Sunday night. The building collapsed when people were vacating the dilapidated
building. One youth was injured in the
accident.
The National
Disaster Response Force, Mumbai Fire Brigade, Police, Municipal Corporation
authorities and ambulances immediately rushed to the accident site and started
rescue operations. Five people were declared dead by doctors at Madan Mohan Malviya
Hospital in Govandi and another one at Rajawadi Hospital.
Mumbai’s Mayor Ritu
Tawde, MLA Abu Azmi and Rukhsana Siddiqi met family members of the deceased and
consoled them.
Minister for
Disaster Management Girish Mahajan also visited the site and assured financial
support to the families of the deceased. Most of the buildings in the area are
illegally constructed. Enquiry into the illegal construction will be conducted.
Chief Minister
Devendra Fadnavis also condoled the deaths and financial support to the
families of the deceased. Enquiry into the building collapse will be conducted,
he added.
