New Delhi, 06 July (H.S.): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds across parts of Delhi-NCR over the next 24 hours, with similar weather expected to continue on Tuesday and Wednesday. Heavy to very heavy rainfall has also been forecast for several other parts of the country, including Gujarat, Coastal Karnataka and Maharashtra.
According to the IMD, several areas of the national capital are likely to receive light to moderate rain with strong winds on Tuesday. Similar weather conditions are expected to prevail on July 8 and 9, with temperatures remaining close to normal. Gusty winds are also likely during this period, contributing to relatively pleasant weather.
It may be recalled that light to moderate rainfall over the past two to three days had brought relief from the heat across Delhi. However, bright sunshine on Monday led to a rise in temperatures, resulting in humid conditions and discomfort for residents.
The weather department said a low-pressure area persists over south Jharkhand and adjoining north interior Odisha, which is expected to keep the southwest monsoon active over central India during the next three days.
The IMD has forecast very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Konkan, Gujarat and Coastal Karnataka on July 7, over Madhya Maharashtra on July 7 and 8, and over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on July 8.
The department also said that conditions are favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon over additional parts of the north Arabian Sea, Gujarat, the remaining areas of Haryana and Punjab, and more parts of Rajasthan during the next three days.
Across northwestern, central, eastern, western, northeastern and southern peninsular India, light to moderate rainfall is expected at many places, with isolated spells of heavy rainfall likely over the next 24 hours and continuing over the following six days.
The IMD further warned that wind speeds of around 40 to 60 kmph may occur in parts of these regions during the next six days. In some areas, these strong winds could intensify into severe thunderstorms accompanied by squally weather conditions.
