Global markets offered mixed cues on Monday. US markets ended the previous session on a weaker note, while Dow Jones Futures also traded lower during early hours. European markets, however, closed with gains in the previous session, while Asian markets witnessed mixed trading.
US markets remained under pressure in the previous session due to a sharp decline in semiconductor stocks. The S&P 500 Index ended almost unchanged, edging up by a symbolic 0.01 point to close at 7,483.24. The Nasdaq declined 207.36 points, or 0.80 per cent, to settle at 25,832.67. Meanwhile, Dow Jones Futures was trading 0.09 per cent lower at 52,852.23.
In contrast, European markets ended the previous session on a positive note amid sustained buying interest. The FTSE Index gained 0.24 per cent to close at 10,679.03. The CAC Index advanced 0.39 per cent to end at 8,508.07, while Germany's DAX Index rose 198.43 points, or 0.77 per cent, to settle at 25,779.31.
Asian markets traded with a mixed trend on Monday. Of the nine major regional indices, six were trading in negative territory while three posted gains. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index rose 134.97 points, or 0.58 per cent, to 23,485. China's Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.08 per cent to trade at 4,046.71, while Indonesia's Jakarta Composite Index edged up 0.01 per cent to 5,876.60.
On the downside, Gift Nifty slipped 0.15 per cent to 24,318. Singapore's Straits Times Index declined 0.09 per cent to 5,239.31. South Korea's Kospi came under heavy selling pressure, falling 156.85 points, or 1.94 per cent, to 7,931.49. Japan's Nikkei Index dropped 655.07 points, or 0.94 per cent, to 69,089. Taiwan's Weighted Index fell 115.07 points, or 0.25 per cent, to 46,665.55, while Thailand's SET Composite Index was down 0.07 per cent at 1,610.20.
