New Delhi, 05 July (H.S.): A massive fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday at two tin-shed warehouses storing exhibition materials in South Delhi's Chandan Hola area. The blaze rapidly spread across nearly two acres before firefighters brought it under control after an intensive operation lasting around four-and-a-half hours. No casualties were reported in the incident.
According to the Delhi Fire Services, a distress call was received at 2:11 a.m. reporting a fire at a factory near the Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Chandan Hola. Initially, two water tenders and two water bowsers were dispatched to the spot.
As the fire spread rapidly, additional firefighting resources were rushed to the scene. The incident was first classified as a Make-4 fire and was later upgraded to Make-6 due to its intensity.
Considering the seriousness of the situation, a total of 20 fire tenders were deployed. Senior fire department officials also reached the site to supervise the firefighting and rescue operations.
Fire officials said the blaze had engulfed two tin-shed warehouses storing exhibition materials, covering a combined area of nearly two acres. The intensity of the fire caused the tin structures to collapse, making firefighting operations significantly more challenging.
According to officials, the fire was completely brought under control at around 5:40 a.m. By 6:30 a.m., the Fire Department declared the firefighting operation complete, stating that only cooling operations were continuing to prevent any possibility of reignition.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined. The Delhi Fire Services and other concerned agencies have initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the blaze.
No injuries or loss of life have been reported. However, goods worth several lakh rupees stored inside the warehouses were completely destroyed in the fire.
