New Delhi, 28 July (H.S.): The impressive performance of Indian athletes at the Commonwealth Games 2026 is not only reflected in the medal tally but is also elevating the confidence and morale of the entire Indian contingent. The success of one athlete is becoming a source of inspiration for another, strengthening the unity and spirit of Team India.

India’s campaign began with a medal in para powerlifting, followed by outstanding performances in weightlifting, a gold and a bronze medal in para shot put, and a silver medal in athletics. These achievements have strengthened the belief among the entire contingent that collective efforts can lead to greater success.

Olympic champion Mirabai Chanu once again led India’s charge in weightlifting, while athletes such as Gyaneshwari Devi, Bindyarani Devi and their teammates further reinforced India’s strong presence at the Commonwealth stage. Their success has not only added to the medal count but has also injected fresh energy and confidence into the entire Indian team.

In athletics, Sarvesh Kushare strengthened India’s campaign by winning a silver medal in the men’s high jump. His achievement in challenging conditions has boosted the morale of the athletics squad. All eyes are now on athletes such as Neeraj Chopra, Murali Sreeshankar and Tejaswin Shankar, whose preparations are also being inspired by the accomplishments of their fellow athletes.

Indian para athletes have also delivered remarkable performances, securing one gold and one bronze medal in shot put. These achievements were celebrated by the entire contingent with equal enthusiasm, sending a strong message that able-bodied and para athletes are integral members of the same Team India family.

A similar atmosphere can be seen in the boxing camp as well. Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain continues to inspire young boxers, including Jadumani Singh and Preeti, through her discipline and dedication. Training alongside experienced athletes is helping young players not only improve their techniques but also gain the confidence required to perform on major international platforms.

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Dr. P.T. Usha, in a statement shared by the IOA on Tuesday, said that the biggest beauty of multi-sport events lies in the way athletes from different disciplines celebrate each other’s success with equal enthusiasm.

She said, “A weightlifter celebrates the success of a swimmer, a boxer motivates an athlete, and a lawn bowls player congratulates a sportsperson from another discipline. They all belong to different sports, but they wear the same jersey and represent India together. This spirit is Team India’s biggest strength. Every medal won so far has been celebrated by the entire contingent, and this collective pride is boosting the confidence of athletes who are yet to compete.”

The Indian contingent believes that the greatest strength of the Commonwealth Games is this sense of collective spirit, where individual dreams become shared aspirations of the entire team. Every Indian medal is inspiring the next athlete, and this belief is helping Team India continue its strong march forward in Glasgow.
