Glasgow, 27 July (H.S.): Indian weightlifter Raja Muthupandi delivered an impressive performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026, winning the silver medal in the men’s 65kg weightlifting category. In the competition held on Saturday, Muthupandi lifted a total of 286kg to finish second, securing India’s second silver medal of the Games.

The gold medal in the event was claimed by Malaysia’s Aznil Bin Bidin Mohamad, who lifted a total of 299kg. Papua New Guinea’s Morea Baru won the bronze medal with a total lift of 282kg.

For 22-year-old Raja Muthupandi, this is his first Commonwealth Games medal. Earlier, he had finished sixth at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. He also won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships held in August 2025.

With Raja Muthupandi’s remarkable performance, India’s medal tally at the Commonwealth Games 2026 has risen to four. The Indian contingent now has one gold, two silver and one bronze medal to its name.

The Indian team will look to add more medals in the coming days as athletes compete across various sporting disciplines at the Games.
