Kolkata, 27 July (H.S.): The impact of the political change in West Bengal has now become visible at Nabanna, the state secretariat, where the blue nameplate atop the building has been replaced with a saffron-coloured one.

The blue signboard, which had remained in place throughout the nearly 15-year tenure of the previous Mamata Banerjee-led government, was removed and replaced with the new saffron nameplate on Monday morning in the presence of officials and workers.

Since the BJP assumed office in the state in May, several changes have been introduced in the administrative setup. Earlier, the Nabanna building had also been illuminated in saffron lighting, and the replacement of the nameplate is being viewed as another symbolic change under the new administration.

During the previous Trinamool Congress government, the blue-and-white colour scheme was widely used across government offices, flyovers, police stations, road railings and public infrastructure throughout the state. Following the change in government, speculation had been growing over whether this colour scheme would gradually be phased out.

The latest development has also fuelled speculation that the exterior of the Nabanna building itself may eventually be repainted in saffron. However, the state government has not issued any official statement regarding any such proposal.

The changes are also expected to extend to the education sector. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had earlier stated that the colour of uniforms in government and government-aided schools would be restored to the pattern that existed before the blue-and-white uniforms introduced in 2022.

Political observers believe the change in the colour of Nabanna's nameplate is more than a cosmetic alteration and reflects the administrative and political direction of the new government in West Bengal.
