Bhubaneswar, 27 July (H.S.): The sixth edition of the induction training programme for newly appointed Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) of Government Higher Secondary Schools and upgraded higher secondary institutions has commenced in the capital city.
The training is being organised by the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education Odisha under the School and Mass Education Department at IMAGE, Siripur. The five-day workshop, scheduled from July 27 to July 31, is being attended by around 120 PGT teachers, primarily from Political Science, along with participants from Sanskrit and Economics streams.
The programme aims to strengthen teachers’ professional competencies and equip them with essential skills for effective classroom teaching, academic administration, and student-centric learning approaches aligned with the National Education Policy 2020.
The inaugural session was graced by Lalita Pattnaik, State Education Specialist, UNICEF, as the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries present included Niyati Pattnaik, Director of DHSE; Sasmita Mali; C H Vijayalakshmi; and Jayajyoti Panda.
In her address, Lalita Pattnaik emphasised the importance of continuous professional development for teachers to ensure quality education delivery. She highlighted that the training would help educators better understand their roles and enhance their teaching methodologies, particularly in line with NEP 2020’s focus on student-centric learning.
Director Niyati Pattnaik stated that the workshop has been carefully designed to address the practical challenges faced by teachers. She expressed confidence that the training would contribute significantly to improving classroom effectiveness and fostering holistic student development.
The welcome address was delivered by Joint Director Sasmita Mali, who outlined the objectives and structure of the programme. The session was coordinated by Deputy Director C.H. Vijayalakshmi, while Jayajyoti Panda delivered the vote of thanks.
The induction programme is being conducted in two phases. The first phase concluded on July 24, with participation from 120 PGT teachers of Economics and Sanskrit. The second phase, which began on July 27, includes Political Science teachers along with additional participants from the other disciplines.
The training modules cover a wide range of topics, including NEP 2020 implementation, gender-inclusive education, use of ICT in teaching, Odisha Education Rules, SAMS and Shikshajyoti portals, the POSH Act, scholarship schemes, administrative responsibilities, examination and assessment practices, and career guidance.
The initiative is expected to enhance teaching standards and support the delivery of quality higher secondary education across Odisha.
