Bhubaneswar, 27 July (H.S.): Senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former Odisha Minister Susanta Singh passed away on Monday morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 53.

Singh had been battling a prolonged illness, and his condition reportedly worsened earlier in the day. Despite sustained medical efforts, he could not be revived.

A prominent political figure in western Odisha, Singh was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Bhatli Assembly constituency for three consecutive terms in 2009, 2014, and 2019. During his tenure, he also served as Minister for Labour and Rural Development in the Odisha government.

Known for his grassroots connect and commitment to public welfare, Singh earned widespread respect for his efforts toward rural development and improving the livelihoods of people in his constituency.

His demise has cast a shadow over Odisha’s political landscape. Leaders across party lines, including members of the Biju Janata Dal and other political parties, have expressed deep grief and extended their condolences to the bereaved family, praying for the eternal peace of his soul.
