New Delhi, 27 July (H.S.): The first hearing in the fast track court constituted to hear the NEET paper leak case at Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court was postponed on Monday. The hearing was deferred as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has not yet appointed a public prosecutor for the case.

The newly appointed fast track court judge, Anu Grover Baliga, adjourned the hearing on the bail pleas filed by accused Vikas Bival and Dinesh Bival. The next hearing on their bail applications will be held on August 3.

The Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, D.K. Upadhyay, had ordered the establishment of this fast track court and appointed Judge Anu Grover Baliga to preside over it.

The fast track court will hear cases related to offences committed in public examinations. It will specifically deal with cases registered under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act.

During the protests at Jantar Mantar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the formation of fast track courts for the speedy hearing of paper leak cases. The establishment of the fast track court at Rouse Avenue Court is being seen as part of the implementation of that decision.

In the NEET paper leak case, the CBI has so far arrested 13 accused persons. Following allegations of a question paper leak in the NEET examination held on May 3, the examination was cancelled and a re-test was conducted on June 21. The central government had ordered a CBI investigation into the matter.
