New Delhi, 27 July (H.S.): Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurav Das on Monday expressed concern over the alleged action being taken against students and other protesters who participated in the recent nationwide agitation.

In a post on X, Das said the organisation had received multiple reports of students and other protesters being targeted, detained, or arrested by various government agencies in states such as Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar.

CJP suspended its nationwide protest only after the government assured us that no punitive action would be taken against any protester, either now or in the future, he wrote.

Das said the party's legal team had been working from the very first day with leading lawyers across the concerned states to secure the release of those detained and provide every possible legal assistance.

First and foremost, we want to assure every protester that our legal team is working with some of the finest lawyers in the concerned states to ensure the release of those detained and to provide all possible legal support. This effort has been underway since day one, he said.

He also appealed to the government, particularly Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh, to honour the assurance given to the organisation.

They should ensure the release of those detained and direct that no coercive or retaliatory action be taken against any protester anywhere in the country. All FIRs registered against protesters should also be withdrawn, Das said.

He further stated that CJP's decision to suspend its nationwide protest had been taken in good faith and solely on the government's commitment that it would stand by its assurance.
