Guwahati, 27 July (HS): The Assam Forest Department has emerged as a key support system for flood-hit communities, delivering relief materials to nearly 5,000 people stranded in remote and inundated areas of Sivasagar district.

Forest Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah on Monday praised the department's personnel for their dedication, courage, and humanitarian service during the ongoing flood crisis.

Sharing details on social media platform X, the minister said staff of the Golaghat Social Forestry Division travelled by boat to reach marooned families, distributing cooked food, medicines, new clothes and disinfectants in areas cut off by floodwaters.

Baruah said the Forest Department stood shoulder to shoulder with the people of Assam throughout the unprecedented floods, ensuring that essential relief reached those isolated from basic services despite extremely challenging conditions.

Commending the team's efforts, the minister noted that the department has consistently stepped forward during times of crisis, whether protecting forests and wildlife or assisting people affected by natural disasters. He lauded every member of the relief team for their commitment, bravery and compassion in carrying out the humanitarian mission.-----------
