Guwahati, 27 July (HS): The Assam Legislative Assembly on Monday witnessed discussions on a range of public welfare issues, including healthcare, agriculture and infrastructure, during the ongoing Budget Session.

The proceedings began with Question Hour, followed by a Calling Attention Motion under Rule 54 moved by MLA Bhupen Roy, seeking the Chief Minister's intervention on an issue of public importance.

Several legislators also raised matters of public concern through Special Mentions under Rule 301. MLA Zubair Anam Mazumdar urged the government to establish an Assam Areca Nut Board to provide institutional support to areca nut growers and strengthen the sector.

MLA Paniram Brahma highlighted issues concerning farmers' welfare and called for enhanced agricultural support, while MLA Sanjay Kishan raised concerns over road construction and infrastructure development under the Public Works Department (PWD).

Later in the session, MLA Jakir Hussain Sikdar initiated a discussion under Rule 50 on improving healthcare services for patients suffering from serious illnesses. The debate focused on strengthening Assam's healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to specialised medical treatment across the state.

The discussions reflected the Assembly's continued emphasis on governance, infrastructure development, agriculture and improving public welfare across Assam.------------
