Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday announced that the party will organise a ‘National Town Hall Against E20’ on August 1 at the Constitution Club in New Delhi. He said the objective of the programme is to bring experts, affected vehicle owners and citizens together on a common platform to discuss issues related to E20 fuel.
Addressing a press conference at the party office, Kejriwal said people across the country have been raising complaints regarding E20 fuel. He claimed that many vehicle owners are facing problems with their vehicles and that fuel efficiency has also been affected. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the matter and find a solution.
The former chief minister said that just as the united voice of the youth led to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, people should come together and raise their concerns on the E20 issue as well. He said the government should resolve the matter before it turns into a larger public issue.
Kejriwal informed that the ‘National Town Hall Against E20’ will begin at 12 noon on Saturday. He appealed to people from Delhi and nearby areas to reach the Constitution Club by 11:30 am. People living outside Delhi will also be able to participate in the event online. For this, they will have to send a WhatsApp message to the designated number, after which an online link will be shared by Friday evening.
He said experts on E20 fuel, affected vehicle owners and people interested in the issue will share their views during the town hall. The programme will also discuss the future course of action and ways to put pressure on the government to reconsider the E20 policy.
Kejriwal further said that his online petition launched against E20 in the name of the Prime Minister has received support from more than two lakh people so far. He added that he would meet the Prime Minister next week regarding the petition and appealed to citizens to participate in the programme in large numbers, either physically or online.
