South 24 Parganas, 27 July (H.S.): A 65-year-old woman was allegedly raped in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district. The incident was reported from Moyda Dakshinpara under Bakultala Police Station area in the Jaynagar area. Police have detained a youth for questioning in connection with the case.

According to police and local sources, the woman had gone to a garden on Sunday to cut grass. She was allegedly alone when a local youth overpowered her by covering her mouth and holding her by the neck before allegedly sexually assaulting her. The victim reportedly lost consciousness following the assault.

When she did not return home for a long time, her family members began searching for her. She was later found unconscious in the garden on Sunday evening, following which the police were informed.

Police rescued the woman and admitted her to Baruipur Sub-Divisional Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.

The victim's family later lodged a written complaint at Bakultala Police Station. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case of rape and launched an investigation.

A youth has been detained on suspicion of involvement in the incident and is being questioned. Further investigation is underway.
