Bhubaneswar, 27 July (H.S.): Leader of Opposition and BJD president Naveen Patnaik on Monday demanded the resignation of Odisha’s School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, alleging serious errors in school textbooks distributed to students across the state.

Raising the issue, Patnaik said multiple inaccuracies had been identified in textbooks meant for children and stressed that the minister should take “moral responsibility” for the lapses. He urged Gond to step down, citing accountability in public office.

The BJD chief further stated that his party had been consistently demanding the minister’s resignation for the past two to three weeks. Drawing a comparison, he asked Gond to follow the example of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and resign from his post.

“The state Education Minister should take responsibility for the mistakes in students’ textbooks and step down. This has been our demand for the last few weeks,” Patnaik said.
