New Delhi, 25 July (H.S.): Safdarjung Hospital has clarified the controversy surrounding a viral video of environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk, saying the footage was recorded before the hospital received the written order of the Delhi High Court. According to the hospital, the video was made on July 21 inside a restricted area where videography is not allowed.

The hospital said the video was allegedly recorded by Wangchuk’s associates and was made public later. It added that the written order from the Delhi High Court reached the administration only on the evening of July 21, after which all procedures were followed.

The administration said Wangchuk was handed over at 6:40 pm that day to a medical team from Medanta Hospital, Gurugram, immediately after the written court order was received.

The viral clip showed Wangchuk apparently being stopped from leaving the hospital, after which he was seen alleging that he was under house arrest.

His wife, Gitanjali Angmo, also raised questions on X, alleging that police personnel were stationed at several points inside and outside the hospital and were deciding who could meet him. She questioned whether police had the authority to restrict visits if the court had already made it clear that Wangchuk was not in custody.
