New Delhi, 24 July (H.S.): Hundreds of lawyers from various states across the country have written a letter to the Chief Justice of India regarding the events that took place on July 21. The letter alleges that Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Akhilesh Yadav and several other Members of Parliament gathered outside the official residence of the Prime Minister without prior permission or authorised approval.

In the letter submitted by the advocates, it was stated that the protest took place in a highly sensitive and high-security zone, raising serious concerns related to security, law and order, and the rule of law.

The lawyers have urged the Supreme Court to take cognisance of the matter, examine whether judicial intervention is required in the case, and consider issuing comprehensive guidelines to prevent any unauthorised or illegal demonstrations in protected and high-security areas in the future.

The letter also stated that peaceful protest is a constitutional right of citizens, but it must always be exercised within the boundaries of the Constitution and the law, particularly in locations where national security and the protection of constitutional authorities are involved.
