
New Delhi, 21 July (H.S.): Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan on Tuesday expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the tunnel accident in Sikkim’s Namchi district.
In a post on X, Vice-President Radhakrishnan wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the accident that occurred at the under-construction tunnel in this district. My heartfelt condolences are with the families of the victims. I pray that those who have lost their loved ones find strength and courage, those who are trapped are rescued safely, and the injured recover soon.”
It may be noted that several workers were trapped inside an under-construction tunnel near Samardung, Jholunge, in Namchi district after a sudden landslide blocked the exit route with debris.
During the rescue operation, the deaths of seven workers have been confirmed. Search and rescue efforts are underway to locate and assist those affected by the incident.
