Kolkata, 20 July (H.S.): A 25-year-old woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a rented apartment in New Town on Sunday night, while her live-in partner was discovered with severe injuries in the same flat. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Trisha Saha, a social media influencer and a resident of Barrackpore in North 24 Parganas. She had been living with Souvik Roy, a resident of Naihati, in a rented apartment at Chandiberia, New Town, for the past four months.

According to the police, Trisha's body was found hanging inside the apartment, while Souvik was recovered from another room with deep cuts on his wrist. He was rushed to a hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Preliminary findings suggest that the incident may have stemmed from a personal dispute. Investigators are examining whether Trisha was assaulted before being hanged and whether Souvik later attempted to take his own life. However, police said no conclusions have been reached and all possible angles are being investigated.

The police also noted that Trisha's body bore multiple injury marks. Investigators are trying to determine how Souvik sustained his injuries and whether they are connected to the woman's death.

A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said investigators are examining whether the victim was physically assaulted before her body was suspended. He added that Souvik's wrist injuries may have caused blood stains found on the victim's feet after he allegedly came into contact with her body.

Neighbours told police that the couple appeared to be on good terms and that they had never heard any arguments or disturbances from the apartment.

Trisha's body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and New Town Police Station is awaiting the forensic and autopsy reports. Further investigation is underway.
