Lucknow, 20 July (HS): Today commemorates the 61st

death anniversary of the renowned revolutionary and liberation warrior

Batukeshwar Dutt. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid homage to

him on the social media site X, honoring his devotion, effort, and sacrifices

for India's freedom. Batukeshwar Dutt is most known for his daring effort with

Bhagat Singh. On April 8, 1929, they fired non-lethal smoke bombs into New

Delhi's Central Legislative Assembly in protest of discriminatory British

legislation. Instead of fleeing, they stayed and were detained so that they

could share their struggle for freedom with the entire country. Dutt was

imprisoned at Cellular Jail (Kala Pani) for this offense. Even after India

gained its independence, his latter life was fraught with difficulties. He died

on July 20, 1965.

“On the death anniversary of Batukeshwar Dutt, the immortal

symbol of patriotism and great freedom fighter, humble tribute. His

unparalleled dedication, struggle, and sacrifice for Mother India's freedom is

an invaluable legacy of national service,” stated UP CM in a post on X.
