Bankura, 20 July (H.S.): Trinamool Congress leader Raju Singh was arrested on Monday in Bankura district in connection with allegations of forcibly transferring non-transferable patta land to his mother's name by threatening the landowner at gunpoint.

ThevPolice on Monday produced Singh before the Khatra Sub-Divisional Court and sought seven days of police custody for further investigation.

Raju Singh was considered an influential leader in the Jangalmahal region. He previously served as the Bankura organisational district president of the Trinamool Youth Congress and had recently been appointed as the party's observer for three Assembly constituencies in Bankura's Jangalmahal during the Assembly elections.

The case was registered following a complaint filed by Sahadev Namata, a resident of Phulkushma in Raipur block, after the change in government in West Bengal. The complainant alleged that Singh fraudulently grabbed his land and threatened him with a firearm.

According to the complaint, Singh allegedly took advantage of an ongoing family property dispute and forced the complainant to transfer 33 decimals of non-transferable patta land to his mother's name under intimidation at gunpoint.
