Bhubaneswar, 20 July (H.S.):In a significant move to address the ongoing fertilizer shortage in the state, the government has directed all district collectors to promote alternatives to DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate) and urea.

The directive has been issued by the Secretary of the Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Department, urging districts to encourage the use of complex fertilizers and ammonium sulphate as suitable substitutes. The step comes in view of the disrupted supply of DAP, which has impacted agricultural activities in several regions.

According to the communication, the Government of India is expected to supply ammonium sulphate in large quantities, which can help meet nutrient requirements and improve soil health. Notably, ammonium sulphate is considered effective in addressing sulphur deficiency in soil, thereby enhancing crop productivity.

The state government has emphasized the increased use of complex fertilizers as an alternative to DAP to ensure uninterrupted farming operations. Additionally, all district collectors have been instructed to ensure that MARKFED units in their respective districts submit timely indents to facilitate adequate fertilizer supply and distribution.
